In a prior post I presented a new rule. Whenever I make a blog entry that mentions depression, or feeling down, I must then investigate the reasons for feeling this way. My reasoning is that if I learn to identify the triggers for depression then I may be able to avoid those triggers.

Key Understandings
How The Brain Works was very helpful to me. It delivered two key understandings. The first was the role of the “control centre” and the explanation of homo sapiens sapiens ability to over-ride ingrained behaviours and force the body to perform actions it would otherwise refuse to perform.

Brain Centers and How They Work
“One of the things a head injury does is to break some of the long, slender communication lines from the bottom of the brain to the top and from the top to the bottom. This makes thinking sluggish, dull, and easily overcome by fatigue. It requires the survivor to focus extra hard to get pumped up before doing something, so that there will be enough energy and chemicals to power the action. It requires doing things with extra effort so that the actions don’t become too weak.”
