Harvest

The header image shows the first major harvest at Balcony Farms. On Sunday morning, a pleasant few hours were spent cutting stems from a pot of basil and carefully snipping each stem at the point it met the basil leaf. I hi-graded the harvest. Doubtful leaves, or yellowish leaves, were discarded. There were few of these, and they all came from lower on the stem.

Balcony Farms

The header image shows the terrain of Balcony Farms. This is the upper growing area. In the left foreground with the slightly blue leaves is lemon thyme. Behind it is a wonderful bush basil which has done very well. There follows a cilantro plant which started slow but has shot up in the last two weeks. Behind the cilantro, almost invisible, is a caraway plant. I should move it as I suspect it does not like the heat in this corner. To the right of the caraway, again almost hidden, is some Greek oregano. It looks troubled in this image but is actually thriving. Filling out the image to the right is a small forest of basil.

Write once run anywhere

Up at 0715. I could use more sleep. Worked to recover from the window replacement and related events. Instead of “write once, run anywhere” it should be “wet once, water everywhere.” But I get ahead of myself. Stripped the factory decals from the windows. Cleaned the grease from the windows. Some grease smears on the outside. Need to clean the lower balcony and vacuum around the base of the stairs and the big window. Put away yesterday’s drenched garments. My shoes are like water filled sponges.
